As a keyboard and flute player, composer, arranger and two-time Grammy winner, Kofi Burbridge earned respect and love from audiences, bandmates and a broad network of musicians. Kofi’s musical genius was evident at a young age, initially pursuing a career as a concert flautist before venturing into jazz and popular music. Developing his seemingly limitless abilities with the guidance of influential music educators and mentors, Kofi went on to play on a wide range of tours and recordings after graduating from the North Carolina School of the Arts. Kofi eventually became a member of the Aquarium Rescue Unit, which led to his connection with Derek Trucks.

Kofi joined The Derek Trucks Band in 1999, fostering a musical kinship that kept Kofi and Derek on stage together for almost 20 years, as he helped establish Tedeschi Trucks Band alongside Derek and Susan Tedeschi. In Kofi’s career he utilized his formal training as the foundation for his endless creativity as an improviser and composer to establish himself as a musician of unparalleled depth, clarity and purpose. His impact on those around him and his many contributions to the evolution of DTB and TTB were profound and will always be a part of their sound.

Since his passing last Month, there has been a tremendous outpouring of love for Kofi Burbridge from friends, fans, fellow musicians and the entire music industry. To honor Kofi’s memory, we recommend these three non-profit organizations where people can express their respect:
