I just listened to the DTB do "Cheesecake" by Dexter Gordon. I love the TTB, and thoroughly enjoyed the concert in Royal Oak, MI, but really wish they could mix some jazz into the mix. Derek has such great jazz chops, not to mention Kofi and Oteil. They could expand the repertoire without diminishing what they already do.
DTB was/is known for the jazz/fusion they played.TTB has a cd to promote and let it unfold in the live setting....not counting the live one comin' out soon.they would have to play a longer show, which i'm not opposed to...but their shows are a good mix , gumbo, of blues, rock, jazz and amazing playing and singing.it's different than DTB or susan's bands, so it's more about what is instead of what if, i guess the fans will never be satisfied 100 0/0 of the time. they're making great music and the memories that go along with it. i'm in n.y. for all 10 ABB shows and i've gotten to the point that the solos, not the songs make the ABB stronger, as last summers touring by gregg, derek, oetil and warren have made it the best front line in rock, period! i attended all 4 boston sows nov/dec 2011, good stuff maynard! i'm looking forward to the road goin' on forever in 2012, aka year of the peach!!! improvisation at it's best......
I know this is long in coming, but my man, if you don't get the jazz incorporated to the max in every show, you might need to take another listen. Best wishes. Welcome to the Great Awaken ing 12-21-2012. It may just be for your EARS only. Take a class at a university, go all the way back and then listen. I am a long time student-listenenr only. Carla illey
